Number 07 - Bob and Bee: The Weekly Blob

Number 07 - Bob and Bee: The Weekly Blob

This page began while I was watching Slow Horses.

River was staring out of a window in that very specific broody way. Grey light. Heavy thoughts. Lots of espionage tension.

I picked up a very bright orange and started drawing blobs.

This is often how studio play begins for me. Something on the telly and but my hand wanders off and does its own thing. While spies were contemplating failure, I was calmly plonking down lumpy shapes with no real plan.

No brief. No outcome. Just blobs. Then…

  • One blob felt like a tomato with legs.

  • Another was clearly a worm mid-speech.

  • An oval decided it had a face and quite strong opinions.

When I added blue, the whole page shifted. Suddenly there was contrast. A little structure. Tiny relationships forming between the shapes. A small world emerging from what had been completely abstract five minutes earlier.

I love this stage. When it still feels slightly scrappy. When nothing is too precious. When a page can just be a page.
